Obsidian bracelet

Obsidian is not a stone but glass: volcanic lava that cooled so fast that no crystals could form. That's why obsidian breaks with a smooth surface that mirrors light instead of scattering it, and that is exactly why the matte and the polished versions look so different while being the same material.

Matte, polished or speckled

Polished obsidian mirrors the light, so it stands out rather than fading into the background, and it's the best seller of the three. Matte obsidian is blasted to an even, dull black without reflections and follows close behind. Snowflake obsidian has grey-white spots that formed while it cooled, which makes it the least severe of the three.

Care

Because it's glass, obsidian can chip if it hits a door frame hard. With the matte version, shiny spots can appear after years of wear on the points that rub against your skin most. That's wear, not a defect, and polishing doesn't help: you'd lose exactly the matte finish.

What to combine it with

Obsidian is the neutral base of almost every dark stack. Next to hematite you get black against metallic, next to lava stone two kinds of matte. All dark options are together in the black gemstones.

The right size

Obsidian comes in 8mm and 6mm. Measure your wrist, add one and a half centimetres and compare it with the size chart. Exchanging for another size is free.
