Black gemstone: types and jewelry

Black is the most worn colour in natural stone and at the same time the colour where the finish matters most. Matte and polished black look completely different on the wrist, even when it's the same stone. So choose the finish first and only then the stone.

Which black stones we carry

• Lava stone: dull, light and porous, grey-black rather than deep black. The best-selling stone in this collection.
• Matte obsidian: volcanic glass, blasted to an even, dull black without reflections.
• Polished obsidian: the same volcanic glass, polished to a mirror-like deep black that does stand out.
• Snowflake obsidian: black with grey-white spots, less severe than plain black.
• Black Banded Agate: black with fine white bands, the only one with a real pattern.

What we don't carry

Onyx and black tourmaline aren't in our range. Looking for onyx? Matte obsidian is what most people mean when they say onyx: the same even deep black, without shine.

Wearing a bracelet with black stones

Black is the safest first natural stone bracelet. It clashes with nothing, fits under any shirt and only stands out if you want it to. Want it to be seen? Choose polished obsidian and wear it alone. For contrast, add hematite, metallic silver grey that keeps the stack cool. Want warmth? Gold tiger eye does that without it getting busy.

Lava stone and obsidian come in both sizes, so this collection works just as well for men as for women. Measure your wrist, add one and a half centimetres and compare it with the size chart. If you're between two sizes, we exchange free of charge.
