Stoney Bracelets
Since 2019, we have been making handmade gemstone bracelets for over 20,000 customers. Each stone is hand-selected in our own studio.

Most people who Google Kambaba gemstone are actually looking for something very specific: a stone that looks different from anything they know. And that's true. Kambaba jasper is one of the few gemstones you recognize at first glance by its dark green color with circular patterns found nowhere else in nature. In our gemstone bracelet collection, it is one of the stones customers ask about most often.

Why Kambaba is not an ordinary gemstone

Kambaba jasper is strictly speaking neither jasper nor a traditional gemstone. It is a fossil stromatolite: a rock formed by cyanobacteria that lived more than three billion years ago. These microorganisms are responsible for the characteristic dark, round patterns you see in each bead. No two beads are ever identical.

That makes Kambaba special in the world of gemstones. While most stones derive their beauty from color or luster, Kambaba tells a story you can literally hold. It is a piece of the earth's oldest biological history, crafted into something you can wear every day.

01
Fossil origin
Formed by cyanobacteria, the first oxygen producers on Earth. The orbicular patterns are literally petrified microorganisms.
02
Origin: Madagascar
The vast majority of Kambaba jasper comes from Madagascar and parts of South Africa. The quality varies greatly by location.
03
Hardness: 6.5 - 7 Mohs
Comparable to quartz. Suitable for daily wear without worries about scratches or damage under normal use.
04
Color Depth
The dark green comes from quartz and feldspar crystals in the rock. The darker and sharper the rings, the higher the quality.

The meaning behind Kambaba

In many cultures, Kambaba jasper is associated with peace and connection to nature. This is not surprising given that this stone literally contains the oldest life on Earth. People often choose Kambaba as a symbol of inner balance and patience.

In Japanese stone culture, green represents renewal and growth. In Western gemstone traditions, Kambaba is associated with stability and releasing tension. We present this as cultural background, not as proven efficacy. What we can say: customers who choose Kambaba consciously choose a stone with a story.

Recognizing Kambaba and assessing quality

Not all Kambaba jasper is created equal. The quality varies greatly, and this is reflected in the pattern, color intensity, and finish of the beads. What should you look for?

The orbicular patterns (the characteristic rings) should be sharp and clearly visible. In lower quality, these patterns fade into a vague green mass. The background color should be deep dark green, not greyish or brownish. And the surface should be smoothly polished without visible pores or imperfections.

At Stoney Bracelets, we manually select every batch of Kambaba jasper. Beads with unclear patterns, cracks, or color differences do not make our selection. You notice this difference as soon as you hold the bracelet. Curious about the background of this stone? Read our in-depth article about Kambaba jasper stone.

How to wear and combine Kambaba

Kambaba is a subtle stone. The dark green doesn't immediately stand out like lapis lazuli or tiger's eye does. This makes it strong as an everyday wearable stone: it matches almost any style without dominating.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Kambaba gemstone?+
Kambaba jasper is a fossilized stromatolite over three billion years old. It is technically not jasper, but a rock formed by fossilized cyanobacteria. Its characteristic dark green color with orbicular (round) patterns makes it one of the most recognizable gemstones in jewelry.
How do I care for a Kambaba bracelet?+
Clean the bracelet monthly with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. Avoid prolonged water contact and store the bracelet separately, not touching other jewelry. With a hardness of 6.5 to 7 Mohs, Kambaba is suitable for daily wear.
What is the difference between Kambaba and green jade?+
Kambaba jasper is a fossil rock with visible orbicular patterns. Green jade is a mineral (nephrite or jadeite) with a uniform green color and a smooth, waxy texture. Kambaba is older, has more texture, and a darker color profile. We have Kambaba jasper in our collection, not jade.
Does Kambaba go well with a watch?+
Absolutely. The dark green color profile of Kambaba pairs best with watches that have a silver-colored or black strap. With a gold watch, you can create the strongest combination by adding a tiger eye bracelet in between, connecting the warm and cool tones.
Is Kambaba suitable for both men and women?+
Yes. The stone is unisex. Its dark, understated character makes it popular with men, but its natural patterns also appeal to women. Our bracelets are available in 8mm beads and are custom-made for every wrist circumference.
