Many brands call themselves Dutch. Not all these claims mean the same thing. Some design in the Netherlands but produce in Asia. Others are registered here but have no physical studio. At Stoney Bracelets, we handcraft every bracelet in Rosmalen, North Brabant. This article explains what that specifically entails - and what it does not.
What "made in the Netherlands" specifically means to us
It's easy to say. That's why we back it up with verifiable facts. Our studio is located at Dorpsstraat 29 in Rosmalen, registered with the Chamber of Commerce under number 76008347. Established in 2019. No intermediaries, no external production facilities.
You provide your wrist size when ordering. We cut the elastic to that size, string the stones in the desired order, and finish the bracelet. No standard size goes into a box.
No machine does this. The stones are hand-strung onto elastic, distances are adjusted, the elastic is knotted and tucked away. This takes time, and it's visible in the final result.
Gemstones naturally vary. Each batch of tiger's eye is slightly different in color. We select for quality and uniformity per order. No batch passes automatically without inspection.
Elastic wears out after years of daily wear. We re-string it via our repair service. The stones last almost indefinitely.
The difference with mass production
This is not a moral judgment. A cheaper bracelet from abroad can be fine for what it is. But it is something different. Here's what specifically differs.
| Aspect | Mass Production | Stoney Bracelets |
|---|---|---|
| Production | Machine-made, standard sizes | Handmade, to wrist size |
| Stone Selection | Bulk purchase, no individual inspection | Selected per batch for color and quality |
| Location | Often unclear or untraceable | Dorpsstraat 29, Rosmalen (Chamber of Commerce 76008347) |
| Repair | Not possible or expensive through third parties | Through the same studio, same craftsmanship |
| Delivery Time | From distribution center | 2-4 business days, free from €50 (NL) |
| Contact | Often only email, language barrier | Dutch phone number, same language |
"My bracelet broke after three years. I sent it in, it came back two days later — as good as new. Try that with an online shop from China."
— customer review, Stoney BraceletsWhy buying local makes a difference for some people
This is not a call to always buy local. There are good reasons for cheaper options. But there are also concrete benefits you only get from a Dutch studio.
- You know where the bracelet is made and by whom — for some people, this is a relevant purchasing criterion
- You can have the bracelet repaired at the same studio, which significantly extends its lifespan
- If something is wrong, you call a Dutch phone number and we speak the same language
- Free shipping from €50 within the Netherlands, without customs issues
- You support a company that started in Rosmalen in 2019 and has now served over 20,000 customers
What we do not claim
Transparency also involves what we don't say. We do not claim that our gemstones come from specific certified mines. We work with reliable suppliers and select for quality, but full traceability of the stone from mine to studio is something we cannot demonstrate. That is honest to say.
What we can demonstrate: the bracelet you receive is made in Rosmalen, to your wrist size, by hand, by people you can reach if there is a problem with it.
Bracelets from the Netherlands at Stoney Bracelets mean: custom-made in Rosmalen, shipped from North Brabant, repairable through the same studio. Chamber of Commerce 76008347, Dorpsstraat 29. Not made out to be better than it is, but not diminished either.
