Stoney Bracelets
Since 2019, we have been making handmade gemstone bracelets for 20,000+ customers. Each stone is hand-selected in our own studio.

You stand in front of the mirror. Shirt, watch, shoes. But something is missing from your wrist. A beaded bracelet solves that - provided you know which beads you're buying. Because the difference between a real gemstone bracelet and a plastic one is the difference between a watch that ticks and one that only looks like it does. In this guide, we compare the most popular beaded bracelets by material, durability, and style.

Which material determines quality?

All beaded bracelets look similar in photos. You only notice the difference when you hold them in your hand. The material determines the weight, the temperature to the touch, the lifespan, and ultimately how the bracelet looks a year from now.

Property Gemstone Glass Plastic
Weight Heavy, sturdy on the wrist Medium heavy Light, sometimes hollow
Temperature Cool to the touch Lukewarm Immediately warm
Colorfastness Permanent — color is in the stone Depends on quality Fades within months
Uniqueness per bead Each bead varies Uniform Identical
Lifespan Years to decades 1-3 years Months

The 7 most popular gemstones for beaded bracelets

These are the stones most frequently ordered from us as beaded bracelets, in order of popularity. Each with a different look, each for a different type of wearer.

Tiger's Eye
Tiger's Eye Bestseller

Golden brown with a chatoyant light effect that moves as you turn your wrist. For years, the most ordered beaded bracelet. Matches gold, leather, and warm tones. Hardness 6.5-7 — lasts for years without fading.

Obsidian
Obsidian Tough

Deep black volcanic glass with a glassy sheen. The sleekest and most masculine option. Wear it solo for a clean statement or combine it with tiger's eye for contrast.

View Obsidian
Onyx
Onyx Business

Matte black, softer and warmer than obsidian. Less shine, more texture. The bracelet you wear to a meeting without anyone asking why you're wearing a bracelet. Hardness 7 — harder than steel.

Amethyst
Amethyst Classic

Purple quartz — one of the hardest stones in our assortment. The color varies from light lavender to deep violet. Remarkably well suited for dark blue and gray clothing.

View Amethyst
Lava Stone
Lava Stone Unique

Porous, rough, and light for a stone. The only gemstone that absorbs essential oil. Literally wear your favorite scent on your wrist. Surprisingly popular among men who don't normally wear jewelry.

View Lava Stone
Rhodonite
Rhodonite Women's Favorite

Pink with black manganese veins. The texture makes each bead unique. The most ordered stone by women, but increasingly popular among men who dare to wear color.

Labradorite
Labradorite Special

Gray at first glance. But turn your wrist and blue, green, or gold appears. This is called labradorite — a play of light you won't see anywhere else. The stone for those who want something striking without being flashy.

How do you recognize a good beaded bracelet?

Four quick checks that always work, whether you're buying online or in a store.

First check: weight. Real gemstones are heavier than they look. Does the bracelet feel light or hollow? Then it's plastic or cheap glass. Second check: temperature. Hold it against your cheek. Real stone feels cool to the touch. Plastic immediately feels warm. Third check: uniformity. Are all beads perfectly identical? Then it's not a real stone. Gemstones always have small variations in color and pattern. That's not a flaw — that's proof of authenticity. Fourth check: price. A real gemstone beaded bracelet costs more than five euros. See a "natural stone bracelet" for two euros? Then something is wrong.

"I had three cheap beaded bracelets from Amazon. They discolored and broke after two months. I've been wearing my Stoney bracelet for a year and a half now, every day. It still looks the same."

Combination guide: which stones go together?

The golden rule: keep the color temperature consistent. Warm stones with warm stones, cool with cool. Three bracelets in the same vibe always work better than three random colors next to each other.

Combination Vibe Matches with
Tiger's Eye + Lava Stone Warm, earthy, tough Gold watch, brown shoes
Obsidian + Onyx Sleek, dark, business Silver watch, black suit
Amethyst + Labradorite Cool, mysterious, striking Silver or steel, blue tones
Rhodonite + Tiger's Eye Warm, colorful, expressive Casual outfit, weekend
Lava Stone solo Raw, minimalist T-shirt, sneakers, everyday

Our recommendation

Start with one stone that matches your everyday outfit. Tiger's Eye if you wear warm tones, obsidian if you wear sleek, lava stone if you want functionality. Then build up with a second bracelet in the same color scheme. Two stacked bracelets look better than three in three colors.

Size and care

All beaded bracelets from Stoney Bracelets are custom-made based on your wrist size. No standard sizes, no extra costs. Measure your wrist and provide the size when ordering. Check our size guide for exact instructions.

  • Take off the bracelet before showering, swimming, and exercising — not for the stone, but for the elastic
  • Allow perfume and sunscreen to dry before putting on the bracelet
  • Store separately in a pouch or box, not loose in a bag where beads can rub
  • Cleaning with a soft dry cloth is sufficient
  • Elastic broken? Through our repair service, we'll re-string it for you

Frequently asked questions

What is a beaded bracelet?+
A bracelet made of round beads strung on elastic or cord. The beads can be made of gemstone, glass, or plastic. At Stoney Bracelets, we exclusively use real gemstones such as tiger's eye, obsidian, amethyst, and lava stone.
How do I recognize the difference between real and fake gemstones?+
Four tests: weight (real stone feels heavier than it looks), temperature (feels cool to the touch at first), uniformity (real stones have variation per bead), and price (a real gemstone bracelet always costs more than a few euros). If all beads are perfectly identical in color and pattern, it is likely glass or plastic.
Which beaded bracelet suits me?+
That depends on your style. Tiger's eye is the most versatile choice: suitable for casual and business. Obsidian and onyx are the sleekest options, ideal with a dark wardrobe. Lava stone is the most functional choice if you want to wear a scent. Amethyst and labradorite are for those seeking color and character.
Can I wear multiple beaded bracelets at once?+
Yes. Most customers wear two to three bracelets stacked. Keep the color temperature consistent: warm stones together (tiger's eye, lava stone, rhodonite) or cool stones together (obsidian, amethyst, labradorite). Vary in thickness for depth and visual contrast.
How long does a beaded bracelet last?+
The stones themselves last almost indefinitely. Tiger's eye has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, comparable to steel. The elastic is the most vulnerable part. Take off the bracelet during sports and swimming. If the elastic breaks after years of use? Through our repair service, we'll re-string it for you.
Are your beaded bracelets custom-made?+
Yes. For each order, you provide your wrist circumference. We make the bracelet exactly to your size, without extra charge. No standard sizes. Each bracelet is hand-strung in our workshop in Rosmalen.
