If you're looking for turquoise bracelets, you're likely in for a surprise: most "turquoise bracelets" on the market do not contain real turquoise. We make three variants, all natural stone, none of them the classic Sleeping Beauty turquoise. Below, we honestly explain the difference, which variant suits which style, and which turquoise bracelet from our studio will last you the longest.
We do not sell "real" turquoise (the rare copper-aluminum stone from Iran, Arizona, or Tibet). It is barely offered in mass-produced bracelets on the world market anymore. What you typically encounter is colored howlite or magnesite. We therefore opt for three honest alternatives that carry the turquoise look without the marketing lie.
What actually falls under turquoise bracelets
The term "turquoise" is loosely used for at least three different things: the classic blue turquoise stone, the blue-green African turquoise (a jasper variant), and anything that coincidentally has that color. Only when you know what you are picking up can you make a choice that will last for years instead of discoloring after the first shower.
Real turquoise vs turquoise-look: what's the difference
The stone that is mineralogically called turquoise is a hydrated copper-aluminum phosphate. It is porous, scratch-sensitive (Mohs 5–6), often stabilized or dyed, and in good quality costs hundreds of euros per bead. What is sold as "turquoise bracelets" in the mainstream is, in 90 out of 100 cases, something else. We therefore work with natural stone variants that can handle both hardness and character.
| Variant | What it is | Hardness | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic turquoise | Copper-aluminum phosphate, almost always stabilized | 5–6 | Sensitive to sweat, perfume, water |
| African turquoise | Jasper variant with dark matrix | 6–7 | Indestructible, suitable for daily wear |
| Gold turquoise | Gold-brown jasper with blue inclusions | 6–7 | Indestructible, suitable for daily wear |
| Yellow turquoise | Yellow jasper (serpentinized) | 6–7 | Indestructible, suitable for daily wear |
| Howlite/magnesite "turquoise" | White stone, dyed blue | 3–3.5 | Discolors; color bleeds with sweat |
Our conclusion: the three jasper variants maintain the turquoise aesthetic and are hard enough for everyday wear. We consciously skip howlite: a dyed stone does not belong in a premium bracelet.
The three turquoise variants we do make
Each variant has a different character. Below, we list which suits which style, ranked by how often they end up in our stacks.
Turquoise
Earthy blue-green with a black speckled matrix. The dark dots are iron oxide, which gives the bead character and makes it masculine. Works through all seasons, stands out without being loud. Our most popular turquoise choice.

Gold-brown base with blue veins and speckles. Warmer than African turquoise, with more shine and a bolder statement. Matches cognac leather, beige tones, and a gold watchband.

Sunny ocher yellow with dark natural veins. Lighter and more summery than the other two, works particularly well with tanned skin and in an outfit with linen and white cotton. A seasonal pick.

Which turquoise suits whom
The same three variants, four wearing profiles. The matrix below comes from our order pattern of the past two years. Not theory, just what customers actually choose.
| Suits | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First turquoise bracelet | African turquoise 6mm | Safest, gender-neutral, combines with any existing stack |
| Dark outfit, cool color palette | African turquoise 8mm | Dark matrix enhances black/grey items |
| Warm outfit, cognac & beige | Gold turquoise 8mm | Gold tone shines through, blue provides balance |
| Summery statement look | Yellow turquoise 8mm | Lighter, more noticeable, suitable for outdoor and linen |
Undecided between 6mm and 8mm? Our size pillar on 6mm or 8mm bracelets covers this in detail per wrist circumference and watch combination.

For those who want to see the earthy turquoise softer: moonstone brings light and a bluish flash without being bright. Especially beautiful in spring and summer on a lightly tanned wrist.

Two matte stones with natural vein patterns. The quiet Schiller-sheen of larvikite draws the eye from under a cuff without screaming. Ideal for the man who prefers to wear long rather than loud.

Four wearing rules that make the difference
An honest seller names the jasper family. Anyone claiming "real turquoise" for under 50 euros per bead is almost certainly selling dyed howlite.
Wipe the bead with a white, damp cloth. Real natural stone will not rub off. Dyed alternatives immediately leave blue streaks.
Natural jasper variants feel cool and sturdy. Howlite and plastic imitations are light and warm, immediately noticeable in the hand.
A turquoise bracelet without artificial shine ages more elegantly. The three variants we make are naturally polished, not coated.
Maintenance: how to keep turquoise beautiful
- Remove before showering, swimming, and sauna. Soap and heat will dull the polish.
- Spray perfume before putting on the bracelet, not after. Alcohol can damage natural stone.
- Store separately from metal jewelry to prevent scratches on the polish.
The most honest turquoise bracelet is not a blue dyed stone. It is a jasper that coincidentally has the most beautiful blue-green that nature can create.
